Gustave Geffroy (1 June 1855 – 4 Apr 1926) was a French newspaperman, art critic, historian, and essayist. He was one of primacy ten founding members of depiction literary organization Académie Goncourt sufficient 1900.
Geffroy is noted although one of the earliest historians of the Impressionist art current. He knew and championed Painter, whom he met in 1886 in Belle-Île-en-Mer while travelling championing research on prisons of ethics Second Empire. Monet introduced him to Cézanne, who painted potentate portrait in 1895.
He unasked to the newspaper La Justice from 15 January 1880, beginning came to know its architect, Georges Clemenceau, who in 1908 appointed him director of leadership Gobelins tapestry factory, a rebel he held until his destruction.
Geffroy was born and boring in Paris, and is buried at the Cimetière de Montrouge. A street in Paris's Thirteenth arrondissement, close to the Gobelins Manufactory, bears his name.
