Louise Bennett-Coverley, (“Miss Lou”), Jamaican folklorist, poet, and radio and television personality (born Sept.
7, 1919, Kingston, Jam.—died July 26, 2006, Toronto, Canada), was regarded by many as rendering “mother of Jamaican culture” unmixed her efforts to popularize Country patois and to celebrate rendering lives of ordinary Jamaicans.
